One of the most prolific British composers of the 20th century, Sir Malcolm Arnold remains best known for his phenomenal success in film (including an Oscar for his score for David Lean’s 1957 classic The Bridge on the River Kwai) and light music, a broad selection of which is included in Sony Classical’s new 11-CD anthology along with 11 concertos. Review:

NO LINER NOTES March 16, 2018 By J. Grove (Jacksonville, FL) See All My Reviews "This is an outstanding survey at a very attractive price, but do be warned that while each disc comes with titles, timings, and artist listings, there are otherwise no liner notes whatsoever. Much of this music is obscure enough that some help and guidance in listening would be appreciated. Having seen the notes for one of the original Conifer discs, I can attest that they were comprehensive and helpful. I don't understand why Sony couldn't at least have posted the old Conifer notes to its website for customers to read or download there. With that (to my mind very large) caveat, this is a great set at a great price." Report Abuse
VG music and performances July 27, 2016 By Andrew B. (Bloomsburg, PA) See All My Reviews "The performances are top rate and the music is usually interesting and worth replaying. The music is not quite at the level of Britten or Walton, much less Elgar and Vaughan Williams. BUT! It is still well worth hearing and the overall price and performances makes this compilation a great bargain." Report Abuse
