Notes and Editorial Reviews

The recordings Lilli Lehmann has left behind for us are some of the greatest treasures of record history. When listening to these audio-documents, it should be remembered that at the time of the recording, Lehmann had long since retired from the active concert stage. Here we have a remarkable case of "late recordings" which transmit the impression of a perfectly intact voice. The Lilli Lehmann records possess an inexhaustible significance as a model for the highest development in vocal technique. Furthermore, in her performances, she has preserved some of the many vocal traditions of the past. One characteristic of her interpretations is the strict adherence to the appoggiaturas, especially in Mozart's vocal music. This disc needs no Read more further introduction. It will be eagerly snatched up by collectors. Read less
