Notes and Editorial Reviews

This album contains works by Russian composer Dmitri Shostakovich , transcribed by Rudolf Barshai. Barshai’s professional relationship with Shostakovich lasted until the composer’s passing in 1975. His transcriptions of Shostakovich’s works were ambitious, and served as a catalyst for many future re-workings from string ensemble to full orchestra. This album was recorded at the Concert Hall of the National Radio of Ukraine, Kiev, in October of 2014, the Kiev Soloists with Dmitry Yablonsky performing.  Absolutely Brilliant April 29, 2016 By P. Nauman (Reno, NV) See All My Reviews "This collection of chamber symphonies is one of the best buys I have made in a very long time. Splendidly played with tight orchestration, these are very moving pieces. The transition from string quartets to chamber orchestra are very impressive and bring new dimensions to the music. In addition, the sound quality of the CD is very good. An excellent disc!" Report Abuse
