Notes and Editorial Reviews

It took a long time for an original British musical language to form in symphonic music. Edward Elgar was then the man who finally created something like the typical British "national sound". A generation later, Ralph Vaughan Williams continued down this path with his symphonies. His contemporary Gustav Holst took it a step further to apply to the enthusiasm for Far Eastern music in his time. The Argovia Philharmonic, under the baton of Douglas Bostock, presents works by these three British composers on their latest recording.
