Notes and Editorial Reviews

The recent series of Guild releases devoted to the music of the Swiss master Fritz Brun, continues with two archive recordings of his music of the greatest importance with regard to a fuller understanding of his art. This couples two major works - the powerful Eighth Symphony for full orchestra and a set of Variations on an original theme for piano and string orchestra - both heard in definitive performances from 1946. The Symphony is conducted by Fritz Brun himself and is played with total commitment by the Studio-Orchester Beromünster, and the Variations, written in 1944, are played by the fine Swiss pianist Adrian Aeschbacher with the Collegium Musicum Zürich conducted by the legendary Paul Sacher. This is a very important Read more issue, and the original recordings have been excellently refurbished. Read less
