Performances from the sixties still valid May 15, 2012 By M. Gielen (den Bosch, Noord Brabant) See All My Reviews "Cristoph Eschenbach has earned his laurels.
This recording is from a time he was not yet loaded with the many honours awarded him later on,though he shows already his skill in performing and gives us with the Koeckert Quartet a beautiful performance of this Piano quintet.
This also goes for the notturno.
The Arpeggione Sonata is beautifully played by the famous Pierre Fournier and Jean Fonda, though the first movement is played in a quite fast tempo.
I prefer a little bit more moderato, Schubert wrote Allegro Moderato for it, nevertheless here are great musicians at work and give apart from my critic a beautiful performance.
On the whole it is a fine cd.
Very recommendable"
