Notes and Editorial Reviews

Marking their third collaboration, violinist Tasmin Little with conductor Sir Andrew Davis are acclaimed for their nuanced understanding of the concertos of Elgar and Moeran and here demonstrate the deep connection to British music with works by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, Haydn Wood, and Frederick Delius. With the BBC Philharmonic.

Review:

Besides the stellar quality of Little's playing (as ever, warmly engaging and technically bombproof), Sir Andrew Davis and the BBC Philharmonic provide accompaniments in a special class. The slow movements of Wood's Concerto opens with a long theme for the principal horn, delivered here with spellbinding loveliness.

It has it all...plus! April 2, 2016 By John Wolff (Ann Arbor, MI) See All My Reviews "Tasmin has become a first rate fiddler since I first heard her on a CD many years ago. It takes maturity, emotion, and technigue to play all three of these Romantic concertos. They are seldom heard and one would, I believe, have to pick them up on individual CDs in order to acquire all. Not of just interest to violinists, but to all who enjoy Romantic music. Play this disc once and you will play it again. The sound is even better than the usual wonderful sound from the Chandos house. The Concerto by Woods is a real surprise when one considers what a recent composition it is. One should grab this one while you can; it is a gem. I want to drop in a word so you know I listen with good stuff. Marantz best sacd/CD player, The big NAD 375BEE amp. (a competition crusher), and PSB Golden i towers. Tasmin's disc should be in any ones Romantic library." Report Abuse
