In celebration of the 75th birthday of Dmitri Kitaenko, often lauded as one of the great conductors of our time, OehmsClassics has boxed up for release Mr. Kitaenko’s recent and most highly regarded, and in one instance awarded a Supersonic notice from the prestigious Luxembourg-based magazine Pizzicato, complete Tchaikovsky symphony cycle on 8CDs. The set features the six numbered, completed symphonies, the Manfred Symphony, op. 58, and the late, unfinished Symphony in E-Flat (No. 7; 1891/92) as reconstructed by Semyon Bogatyrev in the mid 1950s. Along with the symphonies are several other orchestral works, including the Rococo Suite and the Sleeping Beauty Suite, op. 66a, as well as the unfinished, single movement Third Piano Concerto, Read more op. posth. 75 (1893) featuring Lilya Zilberstein at the piano. On these recordings, Mr. Kitaenko is at the helm of the Cologne Gürzenich Orchestra, of which he has held the post of Honorary Conductor since 2009. Read less
