Read more romantic classical harp album featuring Canadian composer Marjan Mozeitch and 20th Century French compositions. Caroline Léonardelli explores works that reflect her French training and style, and her passion for the sensitive and romantic. Daniel Foley of WholeNote Magazine describes the recorded performance by Caroline on Marjan Mozetich’s Songs of Nymphs as “exceptionally scintillating”. Richard Todd of the Ottawa Citizen has described Caroline’s live performances as “achingly ethereal playing” and Caroline as a “real treasure”. Marjan Mozetich, has become one of the most respected and appreciated contemporary composer amongst harpists around the world. Mozetich originally composed El Dorado in 1981 for harp and string orchestra has been arranged for harp with string quartet and bass. This premiere recording of the arrangement features the Penderecki String Quartet and Joel Quarrington on bass. Mozetich’s other contribution to the recording Songs of Nymphs for solo harp was composed in 1988 for harpist Erica Goodman. The original concept was to write four pieces that highlighted the technical complexity of the instrument and resulted in four very unique compositions of intense beauty and emotion.

Three dance compositions for solo harp are included in the recording that feature lush chords mixed with harmonics and endlessly shifting rhythm, and texture that highlight Léonardelli’s French technique. Marcel Tournier creates the sense of magic, enchantment, and chase through his Impressionistic style with the Féerie Prelude and Dance. Jean-Michel Damase’s Sicilienne is infused with jazz harmonies and dramatic style. Viejo Zortizo is based on a Basque folk dance by the quintessential Basque composer Jesús Guridi. Quality recordings of these three compositions are difficult to find and are essential to any enthusiast of the solo harp repertoire.

The recording was engineered and produced by the renowned Anton Kwiatkowski and achieves an exceptionally open three dimensional sound that is almost breathtaking and presents the instrument in its natural form. Daniel Foley of WholeNote Magazine describes the sound as “outstanding”.

Caroline Léonardelli’s recordings include:
Panache - featuring mezzo soprano Julie Nesrallah with Italian, French, and German songs
Impressionisme – 20th Century French music for two harps with harp duo partner Caroline Lizotte
A Conte de Noel - with the Ottawa Bach Choir – featuring Britten’s Ceremony of Carols
