Notes and Editorial Reviews

The recordings on this disc were made in 1941 and 1942. On these transfers from previously released 78rpm records, Cala has sought to capture the essence and energy of the artists' performances while lessening the effects of the surface noise inherent in the earlier technology. Here the maestro brings his special affinity and magic touch to colorful Russian scores by Rimsky-Korsakov, Prokofiev, Tchaikovsky and Stravinsky.
