Notes and Editorial Reviews

"In the German Requiem...the music flows naturally. It is a deeply satisfying version, with an account of the final movements both dramatic and ethereal. Aafje Heynis's lovely singing in the Alto Rhapsody...is even more dedicated and 'inner' than Kathleen Ferrier's, and the tonal shading is most beautiful."

Excellent Brahms September 25, 2013 By Daniel Bryant (Victoria, BC) See All My Reviews "The sound can be a little congested in places, and the soloists are not big names, but this is first-rate Brahms, dramatic and tender by turns, and beautifully prepared. What a fine musician Sawallisch was! This set, a companion to his symphonies with the Vienna Symphony (not Philharmonic), if not a first choice for any of the works, is nonetheless compelling throughout and will not disappoint, especially considering its relatively low price."
