Rehearing these performances a dozen years on, my initial reaction (see

"This is a stunning performance of the Liszt piano concerti, and as if that was not enough we get a Totentanz bonus, which alone would be worth the price of this CD. Pianist and orchestra are so beautifully fused together, that they hit all the right nerves, making the genius of Liszt emerge all the more astounding. This is definitely a must 'desert island' companion for any serious music library."
