Outstanding! June 7, 2015 By Henry S. (Springfield, VA) See All My Reviews "If one had to judge the merits of this recording by the CD booklet notes alone, one might be tempted to avoid listening to the disk at all. German composer Hans Pfitzner's F Major Piano Trio was thoroughly trashed by a number of critics in the progressive German arts press at the turn of the 20th century, to a degree that might have ruined a lesser composer. The good news is that Herr Pfitzner was unjustly treated back in those days, because the work is indeed of substantial quality, and my view is that it deserves a solid place in the late Romantic or even neo-Romantic repertoire of the late 1890's. This is an impressive, even imposing, 41 minute work, and it receives a wonderful performance by Benjaminn Schmid, Clemens Hagen, and Claudius Tanski. The first work on this excellent MD&G disk is Pfitzner's E Minor Violin Sonata, which struck me at first hearing as one of the most impressive works in this genre that I have heard in a long time. Excellent sound, excellent program- definitely worth exploring. Recommended." Report Abuse
