Notes and Editorial Reviews

It's not that easy for a recorder virtuoso to gain an international reputation beyond the limits of period specialty, but Michala Petri has done it with an appealing personality and a deft touch, not to mention a desire to reach a wider audience by industriously expanding her instrument's Baroque repertoire with transcriptions of popular works for other instruments, such as Vivaldi's 'Four Seasons,' arrangements of later composers such as Grieg or Satie, and commissions of new works from living composers. Music from all of those categories figures in this collection, with recorder sonatas by Handel and Sammartini, adaptations of violin concertos by Vivaldi and Corelli, quite a few selections from Grieg's 'Peer Gynt' and 'Lyric Pieces,' and Read more recent works written for Petri by Sir Malcolm Arnold and Danish composer Thomas Koppel.
