Beautiful Strauss Soprano singing April 18, 2014 By F N P. (Ellicott City, MD) See All My Reviews "Loving Strauss, but not yet familiar with Arabella, I wanted to familiarize myself with the opera before experiencing the live performance in New York this Spring 2014. Renee Fleming gives a spectacular, tender performance in this recording with Zurich Opera. Hofmannsthal libretti (e.g. Rosenkavalier) are very tender, realistic, sophisticated love stories and this is no exception. Strauss was married to a soprano, (I have heard it was a stormy relationship!) and the gorgeous soprano singing comes through again and again. These Strauss tunes are not songs that you take away humming to yourself but they tear deeply into the heart when they are sung with such superb artistry as in this performance. This is a great recording for the Strauss devotee or for those wishing to expand their appreciation of beautiful soprano singing." Report Abuse
