Notes and Editorial Reviews

Here’s a generous helping of Ravel with the LSO in its heyday under Abbado. There’s a lush and fulsomely articulated Daphnis followed by an exhilarating account of the Alborada which gives many of the principal players an opportunity to shine. A thrilling Boléro, meticulously judged in tempo and dynamics, is the icing on the patisserie. Good value all round.

Performance: 5 (out of 5), Sound: 5 (out of 5)

Revel works September 21, 2012 By Ed C. (Oklahoma City, OK) See All My Reviews "I start by saying that I am a Ravel fan and this is one of the better CD's that I have heard. Mr. Abbado and the London Symphony were mildly disappointing to me during the Bolero. I felt that it was a thin sound that never moved me like I expect from Abbado. However, that is mild. The Daphnis Et Chloe is exceptional. The Bolero is an absolute Ravel favorite for me and Dephnis was just ok. This CD changed my mind totally. Daphnis shows the sound of the London Symphony beautifully and Mr. Abaddo is a master Daphnis interperter. This is an above average CD and I recomend it for anyone's collection." Report Abuse
