Notes and Editorial Reviews

Born in Tokyo, Keiko Toyama studied the piano as a child. When Alfred Cortot visited Japan, she had a fortunate encounter with the Maestro, who invited her to France to study with him in Paris. She made her debut in 1963 and has made concert tours mainly to Europe and the United States. In her own country, she has developed a strong reputation as a Debussy and a Mozart performer. She has the distinction of being one of the few personal disciples of Alfred Cortot who regarded her as a "prix-fruit" among his coterie of artists. She has been on the faculty of the Kusatu International Summer Music Academy and Festival since its inception, but today, she is mainly a performer of chamber music.
