Notes and Editorial Reviews
"When first issued these performances offered the only integral set of Vivaldi's Op. 8 in the catalogue (though rather far from the only set of the first four of those concertos, The Four Seasons). Fortunately it was a very recommendable issue in any event. Piero Toso is a splendid soloist, in style, tone, and skill alike, and is ready to ornament his part, also stylishly, where the the music seems to call for it. Pierre Pierlot gives an equally good account of those two concertos played (entirely rightly) as oboe concertos. And throughout the string accompaniment is well balanced, with the harpsichord part (often quite audible) occasionally substituted, agreeably, by a full-sounding lute."
