Stunning combination of music and video artistry April 15, 2013 By Larry Looney (Austin, TX) See All My Reviews "I can’t recommend this DVD highly enough. I’ll admit that when I ordered it, I thought it was a performance video of the three pieces. Instead, it’s made up of video treatments created by Hervé Bailly-Basin to accompany the compositions by Tristan Murail. The works – both musical and visual – are amazing, the videos complementing the music wonderfully. Add to that the opportunity to experience Murail’s work in 5.1 surround sound, and you have a package that’s more than worth the price. Along with the three compositions, there’s a 14-minute interview with Murail (thankfully with English subtitles) and a gallery of photographs taken at the recording session. The booklet has articles in French and English which are very interesting and informative. All in all, it’s a very nice package. I would recommend it to listeners who are already familiar with the spectral school of composition as well as those who might like an introduction to it. One note: the DVD is region-free, but the format is PAL. US televisions, depending on age and manufacturer, might have problems with the PAL format, but it should be playable on any computer equipped to handle DVDs." Report Abuse
