Excellent Bargain and a Piece of History January 13, 2013
By Clifford H C. (Thompson, MB) See All My Reviews
"John Blow - Ode On The Death Of Mr. Henry Purcell John Blow has been overshadowed by Purcell for many years. Blow was older than Purcell and outlived him by almost two decades. The ode to Purcell is an excellent poem by John Dryden. The performance by Alfred Deller and Mark Deller takes some getting used to. The tone produced by the two countertenors is jarring on the first listening. After playing several times the remarkable talent of the singers and players shines through. This recording was made at the beginning of the early music revival and is an excellent bargain."
