Notes and Editorial Reviews

"The transparency of sound in this attractively devised collection comes out the more tellingly on CD, though at times—as in the opening Berlioz march—the analytical quality may make the result neat rather than exciting. Yet even there the boom of the bass drum and the timpani is thrillingly real. The coolness of the Ravel Pavane, the light scherzando springing of the Dukas—with the triangle jangling realistically within a rich texture—and the impressive solo of Alan Loveday in Danse macabre are among the delights reinforced in the more critical genre."
-- Edward Greenfield, Gramophone [7/1985]
