Notes and Editorial Reviews
This is the old Vienna Philharmonic at its incomparable best.
This is the old Vienna Philharmonic at its incomparable best, keyed up by Karajan but not dictated to by him.... A collectors’ item.... Wonderful, not least because it includes that famously scabrous recording of the overture Donna Diana, the Vienna oboe all capers and soured cream, and two substantial pieces by Josef Strauss whose music Karajan loved with a special intensity: for the ‘finish’ of the writing and the persistent undertow of melancholy that is there.
-- Richard Osborne, Gramophone [9/1997]
