Notes and Editorial Reviews

If one had to pick out the musician who has best sung the charms of the City of Vienna, the answer would not be Haydn, Mozart, Schubert or Mahler, but without a doubt Strauss (The Strauss family to be more exact: there was a veritable dynasty of them). These musicians used their talents to inextricably link the Waltz to the name of the Austrian capital. Did not Richard Wagner hold the music of Johann Strauss fils in the highest regard, did not Brahms regret that he had not composed the lovely "Blue Danube" himself and did Claude Debussy not say that he preferred Johann Strauss the Viennese to Richard Strauss the Bavarian?
