Kleiber's SpecialitySeptember 3, 2012By R. Rodriguez (Miami, FL)See All My Reviews"Kleiber was known for making very few recording and Beethoven's fourth is not a symphony that stands by itself as most of the rest. The first time I saw an image of Kleiber was in a broadcast of a concert with the Royal Concertgebow Orchestra, that you can find on a DVD now, performing Beethoven's 4th and 7th. I was stunned by both of them. Kleiber was probably the conductor that was the most capable in extracting the best of Beethoven's fourth, there is just no better performance of this symphony than this one, well, perhaps only the performance in the DVD that I mentioned because it has the repeat in the first movement. Normally people wouldn't think on buying a CD only with Beethoven's fourth but, believe me, this recording is superb in every aspect, you won't find a better performance of this symphony on CD (and I've heard quite e few) and you will be able to experience this symphony as if it was the 5th or the 7th in terms of energy and determination. This symphony was certainly one of Kleiber's specialities."Report Abuse
