Gem of an Early Music Recording Rescued From the April 12, 2013
By James Spence (Victoria, BC) See All My Reviews
"This recording of the Ce Diabolic Chant by the Medieval Ensemble Of London will make a welcome addition to the CD collection of early music fans. It was recorded in the late 1970s in the early years of the revival of interest in historically authentic performances of early music, but it has stood the test of time well. The recording quality is excellent. The disc has been very professionally remastered, with an excellent clarity of tone. The notes to the music are useful, but I would liked to have had more information about the Ensemble. Unfortunately, not even the names of the individual performers are given. Still, this is a must-have for the early music aficionado."
Wonderful early recording of early music March 29, 2013
By E. Pederson (Fairfax, VA) See All My Reviews
"Recorded in the first years of its revival, this recording is both a historical snapshot, evidence of performance practice for medieval music in the first phase of the revival, and quite simply a great listen for those of us who are enamored of early music. It was also a good addition to my library since there is relatively little music from the 14th century available on recordings. Most of the pieces are of French origin, and recording claims to include all of the surviving secular works by the five composers included. It is essential listening for all who share my interests and well worth the ear of those who wish to hear early music at its finest."
