Only the Best from Wand May 26, 2014 By Tony Engleton See All My Reviews "05-27-2014 I am reviewing this ery fast because my laptop has a viru and may eayt my work, and also I am doing this from pure memory, since I can't locate the CD yet. My short-term memory, due to my Chrohn's, is faulty, but th long tem is good. Hving learned this work over 20 years ago, I have a real love for it and a respect due Maestro Wand as one of the 20th Century's finest interprters of Beethoven, but also Bruckner and an interestinglyvibrant Schubert.I am speaking, by the way, of the Sym. #7 on this RCA disk, recorded in Octobe/November 1987 with the Orchestra of the West German Radio, Colognne. He recorded all 9 Symphonies ad they have all been reissued on single CD's. Most of my Beethoven/Wand is from Hamburg Radio, the NDR Orchestra and done in the early to mid 1990's, also for RCA. They re "better" in some ways bu here is the earler Symphnies #1 and #7 from Wand and te Colognne Orchestra. For the listener new to Beethoven and his Symphonies, 2 questions: Which ones to get, and by who?" Report Abuse
