Notes and Editorial Reviews

Released for the first time on Blu-ray Disc, this rehearsal and the performances pay tribute to the legendary Herbert von Karajan. The recording of Beethoven’s 5th from the mid-sixties offers insights into his role not only as a leading conductor but also as a pioneer in new media and filming techniques.Karajan, responsible for the thrilling visual direction, chose as director the famed Henri-Georges Clouzot (“Quai des Orfèvres” and “Wages of Fear”).The rousing interpretation of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with the Berlin Philharmonic was recorded live on new Year’s Eve, 1977 in Berlin.

Dissappointed June 16, 2015 By Jorge Alcover (Barcelona, Spain) See All My Reviews "Both works were already available on DVD. Unlikely the conversion of the 9th from 4:3 to 16:9 doesen't gives any improvment because the scren shows a black bar in each side of the screeen affecting the total vision Good sound." Report Abuse
