Not There Yet - Quest : Good Organ TranscriptionsSeptember 21, 2012By Wil L W. (Richwood, TX)See All My Reviews"Not recommended for the causual organ listner. Now, I'm no organ music specialist, but I started to want to hear some of my favorite orchestral works transcribed for organ. This CD happened to be my first in that quest. It was recorded in 1993, and offers a good variety of works using transcriptions of Edwin Lemare (1865-1934), and played on the Birmingham (England)Town Hall Organ. Well, these transcriptions fall short of MY expectations because the tone colors used don't seem to suit the orchestral originals, and the essence of the music was not always conveyed very well. (Like a baby banging out music on cooking utinsils, you have to use your good imagination. If the baby sings along with his/her banging, that helps.) I have also since read, that French organs tend to be better suited for symphonic tones than the British organs. I shall see."Report Abuse
