Hogwood at his best in Hayden February 23, 2013 By Mark Krieger (Shaker Heights, OH) See All My Reviews "This material is perfect for Christopher Hogwood and the original instrument approach. If you love classical music as I do, then you can appreciate the value of finding a sizable body of work that is not overly familiar but is still top quality. I have loved Haydn all my life and own the middle and, of course, the late symphonies. These early works are their own achievement; and the clear, clean, textured and unmannered performances on these discs are hours of time spent with wonderful companions. The trio sections of many of the minuets and many slow movements are striking and often highly experimental. The fast movements, well, it's Haydn. This is great stuff. Don't hesitate." Report Abuse
