Notes and Editorial Reviews

Simone celebrates the time-honoured link between France and America through 3 different composers - Maurice Ravel, George Gershwin and Philip Lasser.

Featuring the world-premiere recording of piano concerto ‘The circle and the child’ by composer Philip Lasser (whose mother is French and father is American) who wrote the concerto especially for Simone Dinnerstein in 2012. The concerto is an amalgam of both French and American musical sound worlds while being based on a chorale by Bach “Ihr Gestirn’, Ihr hohlen Lüfte” (You stars in heaven, you vaulted sky).

The title and cover artwork refer to the New York subway station and alludes to the French-American connection as the Marquis de Lafayette and his French

Tries to make this music her own  April 22, 2015 By Ivan G. (East Elmhurst, NY) See All My Reviews "I never know what to expect when Simone Dinnerstein comes out with a new CD. For sure she looks at the music she tackles in a new, individual way as in her Bach where you may love some of what she does and question the rest. For this new release Ms. Dinnerstein tackles two established powerhouse for piano and orchestra and one commission written especially for her. The Ravel concerto is given a fine performance but there is already competition in this work by other pianists such as Argerich, Roge and Bernstein. The same can be said of the Gershwin, which is certainly an excellent performance, but here I keep thinking of both of Bernstein's recordings where i hear that much more rhythmic drive and impetus. The work to hear on the present release is the Lasser, which while not as virtuosic as the other works is that when it needs to be but is very moody, expressive and original. The Leipsig orchestra plays ably but like our soloist lacks the ultimate drive in the Ravel and Gershwin though they are never anything less than fine. So fans of Simone need not hesitate but those in the know will be thinking of the illustrious competition from the past." Report Abuse

It is evident to me your a first class company. Your website is so easy to work with. Your CD's are always packed well. Your so good that I feel awful in sending anything back therefore I give them to friends if I don't like them. I figure it is not your fault. Carl Retter" Report Abuse
