Enjoyable 4th and 7th Symphonies February 22, 2015 By Gail M. (Goleta, CA) See All My Reviews "This disk contains Beethoven's Symphonies 4 and 7 in Bela Drahos' very fine series for Naxos. The Esterhazy orchestra has a distinct sound, very transparent with good instrument tone and fine articulation. Wind instruments are often prominent. The strings do not overpower but they are always adequate in tone and volume. In these symphonies there are countless times when Beethoven passes a theme from one group of instruments to another; such passages are handled beautifully by these musicians. Drahos keeps the sections balanced so that all the music is heard, and his tempos are lively and appropriate. This Symphony 4 performance is as enjoyable as any I've heard, and No.7 also gets an excellent performance, interesting for repeated listenings. Sound is excellent, too." Report Abuse
