Notes and Editorial Reviews

"Conlon’s version can be warmly recommended. His care over texture, detail and the moulding of Zemlinsky’s long and beautiful lines is exemplary and loving, his orchestra can provide a huge, densely Straussian sound when required – the love music in the first movement is beautifully warm, the storm scene magnificently powerful yet never opaque. Conductor and orchestra are very good, too, in the often bonier sounds of the Sinfonietta, but rouse themselves to a dark and bitterly impassioned climax in the central funeral march. Conlon obviously loves this music and his readings are eloquent. The recordings are very fine indeed: luxuriously rich, but with no lack of filigree or detail.'" -- Gramophone "Conlon’s version can be warmly recommended.
