| "This new disc contains a selection of Lutheran chorales and fantasies for organ with solo instrument. A few of Krebs's contemporaries explored similar territory but none succeeded to the extent of Bach's gifted pupil. . . . [F]ew will be other than impressed by the level of invention on display in the fantasias. One of the finest of these, in F minor, happily is included in this recital; here the chosen partner to the organ is the oboe, beautifully played by Neil Black. . . . I found Neil Black's restrained playing with its tautly controlled vibrato and sensitive shaping of notes ideal in this context . . . . Michael Laird and Michael Thomson both turn in resonant but sensitive performances and Peter Hurford is stylish, tasteful and fluent on the fine-sounding organ of Gloucester Cathedral. . . . In short, a fascinating disc of music which engagingly reflects the changes taking place in late baroque and early classical idioms.
