Notes and Editorial Reviews
Accardo's technical skills are as impressive as ever, and he finds plenty of drama while coaxing the players to support him tastefully in the operatic lyrical melodies.
Salvatore Accardo has already recorded the six Paganini violin concertos for DG with Dutoit and the LPO... Now Phone Italia has prevailed on Accardo to re-record the concertos... Accardo's technical skills and his persuasive musical reponse to works which can easily seem empty, is as impressive as ever, as are his dazzling pyrotechnics. The finales have great rhythmic style and aplomb. Accardo directs the orchestral accompaniments too, and finds plenty of drama while coaxing the players to support him tastefully in the operatic lyrical melodies...

[M]y preferred modern version [of Concerto no 1 is] by Salvatore Accardo – not the usually-recommended Deutsche Grammophon recording where he is supported by Charles Dutoit and the London Philharmonic Orchestra but, rather, the frequently overlooked version in which Accardo was both soloist and conductor of the tremendously enthusiastic and authentic-sounding Orchestra da Camera Italiana (EMI Classics 5 57151 2).
