Notes and Editorial Reviews

Grand festivities are held at the court of the Duke of Mantua. But the community which enjoys itself no longer knows values and amuses itself out of deadly boredom. The most cynical of all is court jester Rigoletto. He only wants to protect his daughter Gilda against the depraved world. He prohibits her everything the young woman, however, goes her own way. We present Giuseppe Verdi's popular opera Rigoletto live from the Opernhaus Zürich.

Eurotrash Production February 16, 2015 By David R. (Denver, CO) See All My Reviews "I was attracted to this DVD by the cast, which includes some wonderful singers, including Aleksandra Kurzak. Of course I noticed the modern-dress picture on the cover, but that didn't put me off; modern-dress productions can be powerful and revelatory. Not this one, though; this is one of the most stupid and pointless pieces of Eurotrash I have ever seen. The singing and playing are fine, however, and since this DVD is about as cheap as a two-disc CD set, you could enjoy it for the sound alone, if you put it in your DVD player that is hooked up to your speakers and turn your TV off. I wouldn't turn the TV on if I were you. It's too appalling." Report Abuse
