Notes and Editorial Reviews

It would be hard to improve upon the Gould Piano Trio’s irresistibly stylish and fervent advocacy of both these uncommonly rewarding works; indeed, they sound as if they have been playing this repertoire for many moons, and in the Piano Quartet they generate an infectious rapport with the excellent viola player David Adams. ... A coupling to relish, this, and most enthusiastically recommended.

A Joy To Hear! May 14, 2016 By Henry S. (Springfield, VA) See All My Reviews "The piano trio and piano quartet have become two of my favorite forms of chamber music over the years, and this excellent new Naxos CD will show why this is so. Fresh, melodic compositions with abundant depth and a refined sense of vision and purpose, Sir Charles Villiers Stanford's second piano trio and first piano quartet are sublime musical expressions. England's Gould Piano Trio, with violist David Adams joining in for the quartet, play these works with style and affection. The balance between the instruments is solid and natural, and as usual, the audio engineering by the Naxos team is beyond reproach. We thus have a standout recording that any chamber music fan will surely like. I give it a thumbs up all the way and recommend it without reservation. This is really good stuff!!" Report Abuse
