Notes and Editorial Reviews

Italian composer Gian Carlo Menotti (1911-2007), generally ignored in Europe in an age of avant-garde predominance, was at least well known in Italy for his Spoleto Festival dei Due Mondi, but he was most of all famed in the USA for his operas. This CD presents The Telephone, one of his most renowned operas, in a performance recorded in Bergamo, Italy in 2000. What then follows are more intimate and lesser-known chamber-music productions represented by his Trio for violin, clarinet and piano and some unreleased piano solo pieces, performed here by Marco Sollini.
