grab this when you see it March 11, 2012 By David Landau (San Francisco, CA) See All My Reviews "Iron Needle is a hit-or-miss label. This one really hits. The sound-engineer decided to allow a lot of surface-noise in the recording, as a result of which the music is resonant, with a constant sense of openness. The sound in the symphony is just a bit less full, and there's some radio interference, but it's thoroughly enjoyable, while the concerto sings out gloriously. And these are full-throated, consistently involving performances. In the concerto, some small cuts are made in the orchestral part, as often happened with romantic concerti in the period; and Rodzinsky was notorious for using these kinds of edits. But Leonard Rose is splendid, and he receives expert support from the New York Phil. I'm glad I have this disc and I hope you'll get lucky." Report Abuse
