Notes and Editorial Reviews

[This] record has a considerable extra in Falla's Harpsichord Concerto. This dry but oddly attractive work is admirably played by Kipnis with leading members of the NYPO. Their performance is excellent. Boulez understands this sort of work completely and directs an admirable performance.

Question about Sonata No 5 in F-sharp minor August 5, 2014 By Javier Iriarte See All My Reviews "Recently, Spanish pianist Javier Perianes published a fantastic record with the 6 Blasco de Nebra sonatas. However, Sonata No5 in this work, obtained from the Robert Harris Edition of the Unión Musical Española, does not fit with such a sonata contained in tne Kipnis record. My question is: does anybody know which was the source of the sonata No 5 contained in this Sony record? Thank you very much." Report Abuse
A Desert Island Disk January 17, 2012 By Raymond B. (Arlington, VA) See All My Reviews "This recording has been one of my favorites since it first appeared. Kipnis is simply amazing in his whiplash Spanish rhythms. Scarlatti doesn't come any more colorful than this. If you know Soler's Fandango, the throbbing pulse of Blasco de Nebra will be a revelation. Who knew padres could be so passionate?" Report Abuse
