Notes and Editorial Reviews

The first recorded collaboration between the great Brazilian pianist Nelson Freire and Italian maestro Riccardo Chailly and the Gewandhausorchester since their highly acclaimed Gramophone Recording of the Year, the two Brahms piano concertos, in 2007, which went on to win multiple awards.

This is the start of a complete concerto cycle from this award winning partnership with a conductor highly acclaimed for his Beethoven interpretations.

Nelson first performed the concerto for the first time when he was 12, in 1957.

The concerto is paired alongside the C minor Piano Sonata no. 32, the composer’s last.
