Best performance and sound August 30, 2015 By K. Jackson (Tucson, AZ) See All My Reviews "I've been searching for a worthy sucessor to the Berstein recording for many years. Finally an audiophile recording and a performance to match. Most conductors take the first movement too fast rushing through the fabulous disonances of the opening chords. This recording revels in the "harshness" that Vaughan Williams was not noted for. I think this sympnony is one of the 0th cencuries great masterpieces but it may never get acknowleded as such" Report Abuse
Great Vaughan Williams October 15, 2014 By Joseph Lieber, MD (Great Neck, NY) See All My Reviews "This set of orchestral and choral VW is ravishing. The Dona Nobis Pacem is a rousing choral piece honoring the dead in the Great War. The searing melodies and march rhythms fall into place neatly with great palying and singing. The 4th symphony is one of VW's most agitated and clearly reflects the very difficult times. The playing is great, well balanced and sets the emotional stage. the Lark Ascending is a calmer piece, here very well played. This is great VW!!" Report Abuse
