Notes and Editorial Reviews

Amy Dickson’s new album, A Summer Place, is the very essence of summer with her elegant and sophisticated take on some of the classic, evergreen themes from the late 1950s, ’60s and ’70s. The unforgettable melodies on A Summer Place evoke the unique sound of those glorious summer days, all presented with style and panache by Dickson, arranged by five time Grammy-nominated arranger/conductor Chris Walden and produced by two time Grammy-nominated producer, James McMillan. The album features classic movie themes including “The Windmills of Your Mind” from the 1968 film The Thomas Crown Affair (which won the Academy Award for Best Original Song), the Burt Bacharach penned “What’s It All About Alfie?” from the 1966 comedy-drama, the much-loved Read more “Moon River” from Breakfast at Tiffany’s and the album’s title track “A Summer Place,” from the romantic 1959 film of the same name. It also features well-known hits like “Take Five,” made famous by the Dave Brubeck Quartet, and the Simon and Garfunkel classic, “The Sound of Silence.

Australian born Amy Dickson has made playing the saxophone a beautiful, gentle and sensual experience and has firmly established the sax’s classical credentials.
