Brilliant musicianship! January 30, 2013 By Brien Chomica (Winnipeg, MB) See All My Reviews "It is a piano recital and it is brilliant -- even breath-taking -- but more than this it is the work of an amazing musical mind. The young Mr. Libetta -- he is 40 years old -- has an international career as a pianist, conducts productions of Tchaikovsky ballets, composes, records and performs Concertos, symphonic pieces, electronic music, writes movie scores, and publishes articles on aesthetic and philosophical issues. Five years ago he completed an eight-volume set of the piano music of Giovanni Sgambati (died 1914), a pupil of Liszt while the Hungarian was living in Rome for 20 years or so. And on top of this amazing piano recital here under a minimal review -- because I do not think it helpful to accumulate superlatives: you must realize I think it is fantastic -- I cannot resist including a superlative one-liner from a critic, who wrote: "A poet-aristocrat of the keyboard with the profile and carriage of a Renaissance prince." -- I dreamt last night that Liszt was once again among us. And note the initials!" Report Abuse
