Notes and Editorial Reviews
Here is charming and completely diverting music. These melodious chamber works by Johann Christian Bach, known as "The London Bach" overflow with catchy melodies that will put a smile on the face of any music lover. This is not music with a message other than to entertain and the youngest son of Johann Sebastian was an imaginative composer who embraced the new Classical era. He was among the earliest masters to perform solos on the then newfangled pianoforte. Mozart took lessons from J.C. Bach and was much influenced by him. Trevor Pinnock and The English Concert play these beguiling works with a sense of joy and delight. - Greg La Traille, ArkivMusic

He didn't need his father to be famous! October 16, 2012
By JT Hall See All My Reviews
"The youngest of Johann Sebastian Bach's composer sons, Johann Christian was heir to a daunting family legacy, yet, as these quintets and a sextet show, stood confidently and comfortably on his own. Written in the late Baroque "galant" style, a segue between his father's contrapuntal music and the dawning classical era of Haydn and Mozart, these small ensemble pieces delight with the delicate, nearly frivolous interplay of violins, oboe, flute, horns and keyboards. Performed by the English Concert on original instruments (why would anyone use anything else?) this music is sweetly engaging, fun, and captivating in a way that that has, unfortunately, become extinct in modern composition. Written for the ages, these gems bathe the listener in melody, harmony, and rhythm that mine a natural connection with something within, perhaps dormant, but by no means forgotten, a connection that will never lose its relevance."
