Notes and Editorial Reviews
Walton's sassy setting of 29 Edith Sitwell poems for rhythmic narration with small instrumental ensemble here fully lives up to its subtitle, "An Entertainment." Ms. Ashcroft and Mr. Irons not only supply superb diction, enhanced by digital clarity, but reveal a dimension of emotion lurking under Sitwell's strange wordplay not often felt in other performances. Mr. Chailly and the excellent instrumentalists prove unfailingly precise as well. ''Facade 2'' consists of eight interestingly sparse settings that Walton excluded from the published version. - New York Times, [1989]
