Notes and Editorial Reviews

The Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra is conducted by Kurt Masur in their first-ever recording of all four Brahms symphonies, from the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall in 1991. Kurt Masur also gives an in-depth interview prior to each symphony, both thought-provoking and stimulating, in which he talks about his family background and his long association with this world-famous orchestra, having studied, like many members of the orchestra, at the Leipzig Conservatoire. This program contains 2 DVDs.

Excellence December 27, 2017 By Robert W. (Yorktown, VA) See All My Reviews "An iconic maestro leads a world-class, historic orchestra through the Brahms symphonies. My favorites have always been #2 and 4, but 1 and 3 have increased in my estimation. Mr. Masur's comments prior to the performance of each symphony are enlightening. The camera shots are well done too. A really excellent production." Report Abuse

Brahms Symphonies February 24, 2016 By Sylvia Romero (San Jose, CA) See All My Reviews "I am returning both CD's. I get a message "Check CD." This is on both CD's. I am disappointed, as Brahms Symphonies were my introduction to Brahms. These CD's are being returned." Report Abuse
