Wow!September 11, 2014By Keith Messersmith (Ashland, PA)See All My Reviews"As a fan of Miss. Cerquetti after buying her recording of La Gioconda on London records when I was in high school, what a thrill to get this recording of Nabucco with her in it, which was her last performance before an audience. What singing! There is nothing about this roll that daunts Miss. Cerquetti, and her reading is both beautiful and dramatic. Although there is a special place in my heart for the Suliotis recording, I would have to think very hard which one gives me the most pleasure. I have an abridged Nabucco using the rehearsal tapes of this performance which is good, but the actual broadcast simply blows you away. What a shame this career ended when she was only 30 years old. What a talent. Sound is fine, and all supporting rolls are adequate, and conducting, good. If you already have a Nabucco, add this for an alternative. If you enjoy beautiful singing, you wont be disappointed."Report Abuse
Amazing CerquettiAugust 13, 2014By Robert E. (New York, NY)See All My Reviews"First off, I am a die-hard Cerquetti fan (as if you can't tell) so any of her recordings (all too rare) that come along I immediately snap up, safe in the knowledge that I'll not be disappointed. So, once again my instincts and love for this artist have proved correct. This is a live performance that has been captured in a pleasing quality of sound and all of the singing artists are in good voice and turn in excellent work and are beautifully supported by the Concertgebouw forces. However, Ms. Cerquetti once again carries the day for me....and what a stunning performance she gives us, singing some of the most difficult music Verdi ever wrote for the soprano voice. Cerquetti portrays the role of Abigaille with great ease, gusto and excitement. Anyone wise enough to acquire this recording is in for a most special treat."Report Abuse
