Notes and Editorial Reviews

'Samiland', the opening piece, is dedicated to the Laps, these people which might have migrated a long time ago from areas around Mongolia towards the polar circle. 'Clameurs nomades', is a rather fierce and rhythmic piece, played in 6/8, a rhythm common to all traditional music: African, Arab, Mediterranean, Gypsy or Indian. 'Voix dans la nuit' and 'Questions' are inspired by the small lights that great thinkers and poets sent to us. Questions is a piece thought to be played in duet on which Rita makes a magnificent interpretation. 'Hourra pour Mal' is dedicated to pianist and friend Mal Waldron. 'Flying-Eagle' is a poem dedicated to the late American-Indian saxophonist Jim Pepper, whom I met when I worked with Don Cherry and whom I later Read more had a chance to play with and appreciate. 'Echos de Granada' is an impression from the Y. Chahine's film about Averroes, which I tried to transpose in my musical world. 'Amazoue-Don' is dedicated to Don Cherry, who was an important source of inspiration for me. It is a structure written for three voices, into which are intertwined some improvised segments. 'Shaman', starts with a collective improvisation and the melody comes only at the end.' - D. Gouirand Read less
