An extraordinary CD set of American Civil War mus September 1, 2012 By Stephen Schoeman (Westfield, NJ) See All My Reviews " Here is one of the most extraordinary CD sets ever produced. The listener will be treated to some of the famous music of the American Civil War, including the thrilling "Hail to the Chief" and "Hail Columbia" to such poignant and deeply moving songs as "Juanita", "Carry Me Back", "Tenting Tonight on the Old Camp Ground", and the magnificent "Battle Hymn of the Republic". And it is wonderful music at that!

But there is more! The sounds of battle at Gettysburg as they must have sounded then.
Sounds which which make anyone thinking of war think twice!

The 52-page booklet is chock full of fascinating information about the Civil War and its music and sounds.

The narrator is the superb Martin Gabel whose mellow and crisp voice is an
inspiration.

No one conducts march music better than Frederick Fennell and no one plays march
music better than the Eastman Wind Ensemble under his baton!

All around, this is one CD set which should be in every American's collection. Indeed in anyone's collection anywhere in the world who wants to know more about the music and the sounds of war. And it should be in the library collection of every public and private
school in the country! And should be part of the curriculum of every American history
course!

This CD set is neither pro war nor anti war. It is rather an historical statement about
the music of the American Civil War which the soldiers knew so well then and as well
about the sounds of the American Civil War whic the soldiers knew all too well.
