"This release, appearing as part of the 250th anniversary celebrations marking the composer's birth, constitutes a kind of musical stocktaking of Mozart's lieder as performed at the Salzburg Festival.`Mozart's lieder play a relatively modest role in the repertory...in spite of all this, we should not underestimate Mozart's importance in terms of the development of the art song as a genre...
During the last five decades, only eight singers have included any of Mozart's songs in their Salzburg Festival recitals, and of these only four made these songs
